Born to Compete

Arizona High School Bassmasters started in the fall of 2020. We are affiliated with The Bass Federation (TBF) and host tournament fishing for Arizona teens in 9th thru 12th grade. We are also affiliated with Phoenix Junior Bassmasters, which holds tournaments for 8yr olds through 8th grade.

 

Our mission is to foster leadership, sportsmanship, public speaking skills, promote environmental awareness, personal responsibility, and community service through competitive angling.

Who is the Director and Tournament Director for the high school club?

The Director is Seth Starks, and the Tournament Director is Chris Daugherty.

 

Our team comprises of non-paid parent volunteers who have full-time jobs, but are committed to promoting the appreciation for the great outdoors.

How old are the anglers?

Our high school anglers range in age from 13-19yrs in 9th-12th Grade. A 7th/8th grade angler may fish with a high school partner. 

Do I need a boat?

Yes, high school anglers need a boat captain. One or both members of the team must be able to provide a boat captain for their team.

Do I need teammate?

Yes, high school anglers must fish in pairs. If your teammate is unable to fish an event because they are sick, you may fish solo for that event. For National tournaments you need to have a partner. *See Rules Handout.

What is the membership fee?

The membership fee is around $100.00-$200 for the season. The membership covers your AZHSB (Arizona High School Bassmasters) club fee. There are National fees that will need to be paid as well, they range from $10-$25.

How much does it cost to fish the tournaments?

A one time membership fee per season, that covers your entry into all of our AZHSB tournaments. You may have additional cost on your own like, gas money $20-$40 per trip for your boat captain, tackle, lake entry or camping fees, snacks and drinks.

Do I have to do community service?

Yes, each angler on a team is required to complete 3 community service events.  2 must be angling related and 1 can be of their own choosing. We do provide opportunities with the club, however you can find events outside the club with approval from the Director.

How long are the tournaments?

High School anglers fish one Sunday a month during our season, the tournaments run from safelight to 2 pm.

Is Arizona High School Bassmasters a nonprofit?

Yes, we are under the Phoenix Junior Bassmasters nonprofit. All funds go through the nonprofit. Sponsors will send funds to Phoenix Junior Bassmasters and allocate it for the high school club. Phoenix Junior Bassmasters is a nonprofit tournament fishing club for Arizona kids 8yrs old up to 8th Grade.
